The history of Black Friday
This story begins back in 1941 in the United States of America. During the administration of President Roosevelt, a decision was made to change the date of Thanksgiving. Before this decision, the official date of the celebration was considered the last Thursday of November, and after the change of date, the holiday was moved to the fourth Thursday of November. With this decision, all Americans received an extra week for holiday shopping.
As a result, a large number of purchases took place on Friday. On this day, an extremely large number of people made purchases. And this is associated with a growing number of thefts. Accordingly, on this day the entire police worked almost seven days a week, and store workers had to be as vigilant as possible. Because of these events, everyone began to call this day “heavy” or Black.
But the history of Black Friday, which we have the opportunity to observe in modern times, was officially determined even later than the events described above. The idea of huge sales, which we all love so much, first appeared in the mind of the American Frank Woolworth in 1873. He worked as an ordinary salesman in a store. At this time, no one even suspected the existence of price tags on goods, and the price of the goods was determined in accordance with the appearance of the buyer. One day, when the store owner was away, Frank put all the goods in the window and added a sign that said, “Everything for 5 cents.” The first sale was a huge success, which prompted all store owners to repeat this trick. Sales later became especially popular around Thanksgiving. And after 1966, this period of pre-holiday sales became known as Black Friday and expanded beyond the United States.
How and when did Black Friday come to Ukraine?
Black Friday came to Ukraine only in 2013. This year, for the first time, massive discounts from many stores were recorded. But, of course, Black Friday in Ukraine did not receive such crazy success as in the USA. Despite this, the percentage of purchases made at this time is constantly increasing every year. Statistics show that clothes, shoes, household appliances and electronics are in first place among purchases made by Ukrainians during this period.

Why might Black Friday disappear forever?
Global statistics companies counting profits and losses from the annual crazy Black Friday sales indicate the beginning of a subtle withdrawal of global brands from participating in Black Friday.
The fact is that the competition between brands and trademarks during this period is simply insane. And the entire advertising campaign for the sale is prepared long before the event. This forces a very tough and quite expensive advertising campaign for all brands. Such events are not always profitable and successful among buyers. That is why you can notice a tendency towards a decrease in the percentage of discount on price tags, a decrease in the range of goods subject to promotional offers, and so on.
It is unknown what the fate of Black Friday will be in the future. But while you still have the opportunity to enjoy crazy discounts, don’t miss your chance. We suggest starting with Wooden Page.
